Disneyland 70th Anniversary: Event Highlights, Tips & Ticket Deals

The Disneyland 70th Anniversary Celebration begins May 16, 2025 and this special event celebrates seven decades of magic and joy with dazzling shows, colorful decorations, and tasty treats with your favorite characters all around the Disneyland Resort. Whether you’re taking picture perfect photos with Mickey & Friends, watching fireworks, or exploring new attractions, there is something special for everyone! Everything you need to know for the 70th Anniversary from event highlights, tips and exclusive offers/deals is here.

What Makes the Disneyland 70th Anniversary So Special and why is it a must visit in 2025?

Disneyland celebrates it’s 70th birthday in 2025, specifically on July 17th. However, the party begins May 16th running through summer 2026. The Disneyland Resort is bringing back some of its most popular shows/entertainment they’ve had since its opening in 1955 all at once! You won’t want to miss out on this one of a kind experience.

What Will the Disneyland 70th Anniversary Celebration Include?

The Disneyland 70th Anniversary features new entertainment, like the “Celebrate Happy Cavalcade” with characters like Duffy and ShellieMay. The “Paint the Night” parade returns with glowing floats, and “World of Color Happiness!” debuting at California Adventure. Expect themed food, exclusive merchandise, and a new song, “Celebrate Happy,” by the Jonas Brothers.

Paint the Night Parade in Disneyland

Paint the Night made its first appearance on May 22, 2015, during the 60th Diamond Celebration. It was inspired by Disney’s iconic Main Street Electrical Parade. Fans (myself included!) have begged for its return, and Disney’s delivering —so don’t miss this brief, spectacular run! With over 1.5 million brilliant LED lights, it featured floats from Pixar’s Monsters, Inc., Cars, and Toy Story! As well as other Disney Animation gems like Beauty and the Beast and my favorite, The Little Mermaid! In addition, you’ll be able to see Anna and Elsa from Frozen in their own float for the first time in forever (forgive my pun, I couldn’t resist).

Paint the Night Parade

The amazing soundtrack featured Owl City’s “When Can I See You Again?” from the Wreck-It Ralph movie! It blended perfectly with the parade’s vibrant energy. It’s an upbeat anthem that’ll have you singing and humming that song to yourself on repeat! Prioritize carving out time to get a good viewing spot for it! I can assure you that it will be a show stopper!

It should be noted, you can book the Paint the Night Dining Package at Plaza Inn, available May 16 to August 21, 2025 (reservations opened March 25, 2025). This option works well if you don’t want to worry about camping out for a good viewing spot. Prices are $55 per adult and $28 per child (ages 3-9). You’ll enjoy a multi-course lunch between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Later you’ll get to use a voucher for your reserved standing viewing area, but only for the first parade showing as there are two shows. Plant-based options are available, and they do offer kids’ meals to cater to younger guests.

Wondrous Journeys is coming back to Disneyland for the 70th Anniversary!

Undoubtedly, this projections and fireworks show is one of the best Disney has ever had! Well, in my personal opinion/experience of visiting the parks for many years (12 to be exact). You get to see powerful moments from beloved tales from our favorite Disney Animation and Pixar films like “Hercules, The Princess and the Frog, Peter Pan, Frozen, Big Hero 6, Moana, Encanto” and more.

Watch this projection show on Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, on Main Street, U.S.A., near “it’s a small world,” and The Rivers of America. Each viewing area is unique and fun, but arrive early if you want to see the show in front of the castle. The fireworks portion of this show happens on “select nights” according to the Disney website, which in my experience translates to weekends only and weather permitting.

Wondrous Journeys in Disneyland for 70th Anniversary Celebration

Wondrous Journeys first debuted in 2023 for Disney’s 100 Years of Wonder that celebrated the collective works of Disney’s storytelling over a century. Not to be mistaken with it being Disneyland’s 100th anniversary. This absolutely breathtaking show honors the legacy of Walt Disney’s vision, weaving together iconic characters and moments from the studio’s vast history. Arrive early, especially for castle-front views, and let this dazzling tribute to Disney’s century of magic sweep you away!

Celebrate Happy Cavalcade at Disneyland

Celebrate Happy Cavalcade in Disneyland

Disneyland Park will unveil the lively “Celebrate Happy Cavalcade,” a vibrant procession dancing down the parade route, marking seven decades of joy. This upbeat, modern celebration invites you to clap and dance alongside beloved characters of Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Max, Clarabelle, Pluto, Minnie and Mickey Mouse sporting dazzling 70th anniversary outfits. Keep an eye out for rare guests like Duffy and ShellieMay, the adorable teddy bear duo from Duffy and Friends, who bring their fluffy charm to the festivities.

If you’re unfamiliar with Duffy, Duffy was Mickey Mouse’s teddy bear that was given to him by Minnie Mouse in a duffel bag. This gift was given to Mickey when he had plans to travel overseas according to Walt Disney Imagineers. Duffy was introduced to the Disney Parks in October 2010 but later made his way with other friends to Tokyo!

Obviously this has many mega fans of Duffy and friends extremely excited to see them back.

Tapestry of Happiness at Disneyland

Every night at Disneyland, on the outside of the iconic “It’s a Small World” you’ll see it transform into a dazzling spectacle with “Tapestry of Happiness” light show. This enchanting show weaves light, music, and projections into a vibrant mosaic inspired by Disney legend Mary Blair’s whimsical art. Featuring the 70th anniversary theme song “Celebrate Happy” and beloved Disneyland melodies spanning decades, it brings park attractions and cherished memories to life.

“Tapestry of Happiness” is a heartfelt tribute to The Happiest Place on Earth. The messaging being of unity for all ages and backgrounds through the magic of shared Disney memories. It should be noted, showings will pause briefly during the Halloween and holiday seasons, resuming May 16, 2025, for the 70th anniversary festivities. Don’t miss this radiant feature to Disneyland’s timeless wonder!

Can You Get Lightning Lane for the Disneyland 70th Anniversary?

Yes! Due to the popularity of the 70th Anniversary event, getting a Lightning Lane Multi Pass is highly recommended. The Lightning Lane Multi Pass is a paid service at Disneyland Resort that allows guests to reserve access to shorter, priority queues for select attractions, enabling them to skip the regular standby lines and enjoy more rides throughout the day; it starts at $32 per person per day, with prices varying by date, and lets you book one ride at a time, with the ability to reserve another after redeeming a pass or every two hours.

The Lightning Lane Premier Pass, priced at $400 per person per day, offers one-time access to every Lightning Lane at both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure without needing reservations, providing maximum flexibility for all eligible attractions in a single day.

For example, use it for Space Mountain or Toy Story Midway Mania, which are normally popular rides but will soon become even more popular since they will soon have 70th-themed updates and decorations. However, if you purchase your Lightning Lane Multi Pass through Get Away Today along with your tickets, you are guaranteed the lowest Lightning Lane Multi Pass price regardless of the price fluctuations.

World of Color Happiness in California Adventure

Mega Disney fans will immediately recognize Walt Disney’s iconic words: “To all who come to this happy place… welcome!” from his opening day speech seven decades ago. Disney’s team echoes this in “World of Color Happiness,” a new nighttime show at Disney California Adventure. Join Inside Out and Inside Out 2 emotions exploring “happy” moments from Pixar hits like Turning Red and The Incredibles, plus Walt Disney Animation tales like A Goofy Movie, Tangled, and Encanto.

Disney and Pixar Characters for 70th Anniversary in California Adventure

Kicking things off, you’ll hear a special message featuring Joe the Legal Weasel and over a dozen Muppets! For the first time, guests can also interact via the Disneyland app to make a special guest appear in the show– voting for Sadness, Anger, Disgust, or Envy from Inside Out 2. Boyz II Men will perform a rendition of “Rainbow Connection” featured in this new “World of Color Happiness!” nighttime spectacular starting May 16, 2025.

In order to secure a prime preferred view, use the free virtual queue on the Disneyland app when it becomes available at noon— but act fast, as spots are limited! If you’re successful, you will get an assigned color for seating area, either blue or yellow and make sure to check in at least 30-45 minutes before the show.

For a guaranteed spot, book the “World of Color Happiness Dessert Party,” it’s the only way to get reserved seating and treats, reservable up to 60 days ahead via the app or Disneyland’s website. As a last resort, you can ask a cast member if there is walk up viewing option or watch the show from a side spot near Pixar Pier or Paradise Gardens Park. Arrive earlier for a decent, if off-angle, view.

Better Together: A Pixar Pals Celebration Parade at Disneyland California Adventure

Better Together Parade in Disneyland California Adventure

This parade is exclusive to Disney California Adventure (DCA) and will only do showings during the daytime. Guests will see many colorful floats that feature more than “two dozen characters” celebrating pals from Pixar films that we all know and love like “Luca, Turning Red, Up, Inside Out, Soul.” Pixar Fest began in 2018 for a few months and later returned again in 2024.

This vibrant parade celebrates friendship with high-energy dancers and an upbeat theme song that the kids won’t want to miss. For more on Pixar Fest, check out our previous article here. It should be noted that “Better Together: A Pixar Pals Celebration!” and “Wondrous Journeys” will take a brief pause during the Halloween and holiday seasons at Disneyland Resort. Don’t miss this joyful procession when it returns to DCA’s streets.

Special Updates on Fan Favorite Attractions for the 70th Anniversary

As Disneyland Resort prepares up for its 70th anniversary, many popular attractions will receive visual updates. At Disneyland’s “it’s a small world,” the vibrant Mexico scene will welcome for the first time Miguel and his playful alebrije, Dante from Pixar’s Coco. They will join the children in song, harmonizing against a stunning marigold bridge. This heartwarming addition will debut when the attraction reopens on May 9, 2025, elevating the ride’s global celebration. Personally, I can’t wait to see this!

Meanwhile, at Disney California Adventure, Toy Story Midway Mania! will feature its own twist. As you aim for high scores in its carnival-inspired games, you will spot exciting little “70th anniversary” nods woven into the experience. These updates will add extra magic to your competitive fun.

Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live coming to California Adventure

At this time, “Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!” is replacing the previous show called Disney Jr. Dance Party!, which ended March 23, 2025. This new show will take place at the Disney Theater at Disney California Adventure as part of Disneyland’s 70th anniversary. It was inspired by the hit Disney Jr. series Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and the upcoming Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+ (premiering August 2025). Expect to hear upbeat original songs and see beloved characters dancing along with your little ones. This production will pause during the Halloween and holiday seasons.

70th Anniversary Decor throughout the Disneyland Resort

Disneyland 70th Anniversary Sculpture in the Esplanade

In the esplanade between Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, you’ll see a dazzling 50-foot sculpture, inspired by Sleeping Beauty Castle. You’ll get to see it shine with vibrant glass panels and golden charms representing the five original lands. Next, as you enter Disneyland Park, you’ll see a colorful floral Mickey. Meanwhile, vivid banners and flags transform Main Street, U.S.A., into a festive wonderland. Additionally, a unique Mickey and Minnie installation will glow in Town Square, and an elegant medallion will adorn the Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Over at Disney California Adventure, Carthay Circle Restaurant will sparkle with 70th anniversary colors. Every in the evening, it will host a magical “Celebrate Happy” moment, featuring music, twinkling lights, and dynamic projections set to the anniversary theme song. This spectacle will cover Buena Vista Street in vibrant colors, especially at night. Furthermore, the celebratory decor will extend to Downtown Disney District and Disneyland Resort hotels, so you’ll get to experience this joyful vibe everywhere.

As you explore Disneyland Park during the 70th anniversary, your MagicBand+ will unlock magical surprises. A MagicBand+ is a wearable wristband that connects to your Disneyland park ticket or Magic Key pass, allowing hands-free entry, Lightning Lane access, and PhotoPass photo linking. It also features interactive elements like lights and vibrations that sync with shows and attractions, enhancing your park experience. In Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, and Frontierland, you will discover five unique interactions.
